The enormous Rhodope Mountain is occupying parts of South Bulgaria and North Greece. The territory of the Rhodope Mountains are some of the most fascinating and scenic sites in Bulgaria, worth to be visited any time of the year. There is a conditional Eastern and Western separation. The Western part is at higher level, with a typically mountainous terrain, the Eastern part though is lower and hilly. The historical area of Eastern Rhodope is reminiscent to the mythological, legendary poet and singer Orpheus, also with its unique archeological monuments, discovered there. “St.Petar and Pavel” Monastery is at the foot of mount “Byala Cherkva”, one of the oldest in Bulgaria - built in 11 century, it is the highest situated monastery in the country with its 1600 m altitude.
“St.Kozma and Damyan” Monastery,mentioned in the famous “Koziyat rog” novel by Nikolai Haytov, is at 15 km southeast of Plovdiv, in the North Rhodope northern slopes. It contains many valuable icons and frescoes from different eras.
“Byala Cherkva” Resort Area is at 13 km of Eco hotel ZDRAVETZ. From there one can visit the Persenk, Ruen, Chernatitza and Rabnishta cabins.
